Jens Wieting, Sierra Club BC’s Senior Forest and Climate Campaigner will share about the momentum and support for Indigenous-led conservation solutions for at-risk old-growth forests and the work of Sierra Club BC and other NGOs to ensure the BC government follows through on its promise to implement a paradigm-shift in forest stewardship.
Together with the Union of BC Indian Chiefs (UBCIC), the Elders for Ancient Trees, Wilderness Committee and Stand.earth, Sierra Club BC is one of the initial signatories of the United we Stand for Old-Growth Declaration, now signed by more than 200 groups, and more names added every day, as we are approaching the February 25 United for Old Growth Walk and Rally.
In the zoom presentation he’ll talk about why Premier Eby’s first 100 days in office are critical and why 2023 is a crucial year for progress implementing key recommendations from the Old Growth Strategic Review, from logging deferrals for all at-risk old-growth to a clear timeline for legislation making biodiversity a priority for all sectors. One of many reasons why organizers encourage participation in the February 25 United for Old Growth Walk and Rally.
