Many local islanders have been spending time at the Fairy Creek Logging blockade in the past months. As the pressure builds invitations are extended to all to join the camp and see one of the last old growth forests and why she is worth a battle to protect.
From one local:
“I have spent most of the last month at the blockades surrounding Fairy Creek. I hope you already have some information about that peaceful action and will include an invitation for anyone to visit or for an extended stay. One must be prepared to camp self sufficiently or in small pods following all covid protocols. Many roles need to be filled besides being an arrestee.
It is the most amazing place to be right now. So many genuine and authentic people gathering and sharing short and long life experiences (many young folks as well as a few seniors!) being shared. And a huge challenge as well in regards to interpersonal relationships, divided support from First Nations, at least five scattered main camps with others camping along Granite Main and obviously covid restrictions!! I find it very exhilarating and draining at the same time. My heart is bursting with Love and the tears flow much more readily, including in the middle of a long video interview I did last week when asked why I’m spending so much time in camp. My answer was about the admiration and respect I feel for everyone I have had the privilege of meeting and deepening with up there. For Life! ~ Gary”
