Recently some of the members of the Mt. Maxwell Project Team talked with CBC about their groundbreaking work. The story was featured as part of Our Changing Planet, a CBC News show explaining the effects of climate change and what is being done about it.
This amazing team made up of ecologists, foresters, restoration experts, technicians, students and volunteers, is doing research on fire risk intervention and resilience in the Mt. Maxwell Creek Watershed. They are hoping to share their findings with the general public and property owners who might be interested in restoration work and in supporting forests that are resilient to drought and fire.
Maxwell Lake, along with the watershed, provides water for about half of Salt Spring Island and the team is taking a look at how to protect this crucial freshwater source.
We are so proud of this team and the work they are doing for our community!
