A sneak peek at Salt Spring’s own “Salish Sea Day of Action” Sept 15th events….
This is a call for volunteers !!
First, we’re holding a PARADE!
~ during the Fall Fair and Saturday Market on Sept 15th, join a pod of orca whales for a joyful march up Rainbow Road, through the Fair and back to the market, collecting signatures and raising awareness as we travel.
Then, we’re holding a gathering + concert at Beaver Point Hall in the evening with Buckman Coe!! That event is taking shape as a fundraiser to support RAVEN’s Indigenous justice campaigns and promises to be a beautiful evening of song and community. https:// actionnetwork.org/ticketed_ events/celebrate-the-salish- sea-with-buckman-coe/
The goal is to get 250 people signed up for the One Coast citizen’s lobby (http://onecoast.eco) and to raise $2000 for RAVEN Trust.
People are needed for the parade + daytime activities (10 am to 12 pm OR 12-2pm with various shifts available), AND for the evening concert:
DAY:
• up to 78 people to carry orca and jellyfish puppets for the parade,
• 5-8 people to collect signatures and pass out information to locals and visitors
NIGHT:
• helpers to set up the hall, serve treats, work the door and clean up
• people to bake/prepare raw and cooked desserts and drinks for sale at the fundraising concession
If you can help please email Andrea andrea@raventrust.com and she’ll add you to the list, then we’ll create a schedule and you can pick your passion from the list of times/jobs.
We are also looking for help to coordinate, and donations for, a SILENT AUCTION: if you have something to contribute, or want to be part of gathering items, please email andrea@raventrust.com.
This is part of a pan-Salish Sea Day of Action being led by 350.org in Seattle. Those folks have been incredible supporters of the Indigenous legal challenges against Kinder Morgan and are mobilizing communities up and down the coast to stand up for what we love.
