The province’s own research has found flaws in how natural gas leaks were detected and measured. The findings have consequences for the climate — particularly given B.C.’s plan to more than triple its fracking activity by 2040 if the LNG Canada project comes online.
“It’s a huge problem, especially since the province is hell-bent on producing fracked gas, which is essentially methane,” says Tom Green, of the David Suzuki Foundation. “Actually the problem is worse than we think and we’re building more of it.”
