On Saturday May 5th, 2018 Transition Salt Spring held our Annual General Meeting.
We had a good turnout for a beautiful sunny day of 17 people! One of our Directors, Ky Fox has stepped down who we acknowledge with big thanks for his commitment and time dedicated to this work over the past term. We are happy to welcome Nick Adamson-Jones as a new board member who is particularly inspired by permaculture and exploring ways to support more inclusion of it in our activities.
Our committees reported on the accomplishments they’ve enjoyed over the past year with highlights including:
Climate Action Group (Peter Lamb, Chair) working to influence province and Islands Trust to adopt Climate Action as a policy goal in zoning and other regulations, and to restore funding to monitor Climate Action progress per 2007 goals.
Communication Committee (Andrea Palframan, Chair) launched a new website: www.transitionsaltspring.com and we have over 400 subscribers to our newsletter!
Community Energy Group (Ron Watts, Chair) assisting The Root Centre for Food Security w/ solar & EV charger installations.
Earth Day Committee (Alex Lyons, Elizabeth FitzZaland, co-chairs) 2017 most successful-ever SS Earth Day.
Education Committee (Jon Healey, chair) hosted 8 highly successful events including Solar 101 to an over-capacity crowd again.
EV Group (Jim Standen, chair) promoted a steady increase in EV-count on SSI to over 150! Now looking into creating charging stations for e-bicycles.
Organic Waste Working Group (Mary Richardson, chair; Jane Squier a key co-organizer) working on acquiring/building a system to manage all organic waste including septage, kitchen scraps, branches, etc.
RRPAG (Allotment Garden) (Jane Petch, chair) applied to expand space into an adjoining strip of land and installed an additional 500-gal. water catchment tank.
These are just some of the many accomplishments of our dedicated volunteers. We feel proud of all the good work our committee members have achieved this year and we hope to connect with you at our events throughout this upcoming year! Please let us know how can we help support you!
