Short-term Contract – Community Swap Coordinator
Transition Salt Spring is looking for a short-term Community Event Coordinator to help with the planning and execution of 4 waste reduction events, related to community swaps, as part of our Climate Action Coach program. This contract is for a total of 80 hours spread out between August 2023 – January 2024.
Scope of Work:
- Organize a total of 4 events (1 every 4-6 weeks) on Salt Spring Island related to community clothing swaps, repair cafe, and/or repair cafe(s), with some assistance from TSS team
- Determine logistics of how swap items will be collected before and donated/returned after the events
- Write content for event reminders, follow-ups, and promotion
- Lead day-of event organization, including setup/take down and making sure the event itself runs smoothly
- Provide input on the event themes
- Connect with any possible guest speakers for event
- Distribute posters/marketing material leading up to event
- Participate in 1-2 in-person event meetings per month at the TSS office in SIMS, and participate in-person during the planned events (dates TBD, on one Saturday/month)
Qualifications:
- Experience with running events
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Motivated and self-directed
- Enjoys working as part of a team
- Inspired and eager to support climate action on Salt Spring
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Able to work flexible hours throughout the week
- Available 1 Saturday a month for day-time events
This contract will be $31/hour for a total of 80 hours (20 hours/per event for a total of 4 events). The contract will run for a total of 4-5 months (1 month leading up the first event, and then the execution of running the 4 events), ideally starting in August 2023 and ending in January 2024 (with a break in December 2023).
