Message from TSS Climate Action Plan

We hope you and your family are doing ok in this stressful time.

We have decided that we will hold off on the climate action plan public engagement and consultation for a couple of weeks until we are all able to settle into this new normal. Some have suggested it would be good to do the online engagement sooner given folks are stuck inside. What do you think? Would you like to do the online engagement soon or should we hold off? We’d love to hear from you on this before we proceed.

One thing that we know for sure is that none of us ever want to feel this sense of anxiety again. It is terrible; worrying about your parents, your children, your economic situation and in fact, even just going outside. When the pandemic passes, it is likely that people will, at least for a short time, remember what an emergency felt like. They will also be craving the comfort of ‘normality’.

Many of us fear that the result of climate change will be an ongoing, accelerating series of disasters that in many ways are like this pandemic. The pace of those events has been increasing in recent years, and our ability to keep them at something like a manageable level depends, above all, on the speed with which we transition off of gas, oil, and coal.

We need to act in community and stand with the most vulnerable among us as well as in the best interest of our common society. It is very similar to what we need to be doing around climate and perhaps, this moment is a good time for us to reflect on where we are and how we are going to move forward.

Thank you and stay well.
