The heat dome of June 2021 came with dire consequences and brought attention to a host of environmental concerns, one of them being the state of the Salish Sea – the 18,000 square kilometre body of water that includes the Juan de Fuca Strait, the Strait of Georgia and Puget Sound.
On November 30 at 12 p.m., CBC Victoria’s Kathryn Marlow will moderate a panel of UBC experts at The Salish Sea in a warming world: What might the future hold?, a free, one-hour online UBC Dialogues discussion about the impact of the summer’s heat dome on our local waterways, the current state of sea life surrounding Vancouver Island and what can be expected in years to come.
Join the conversation and discuss how we can support a better, healthier future for B.C. waters.
UBC Panelists:
- Dr. Christopher Harley – Professor, Zoology and Institute for Oceans and Fisheries, UBC
- Dr. Debby Ianson, MSc’94, PhD’01 – Federal Research Scientist, Institute of Ocean Sciences; Adjunct Professor, University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, and University of Victoria
